You Can’t Hide Excellence!4 min read

You can’t hide excellence. I was in the parking lot a few weeks back and a beautiful professionally wrapped Mercedes-Benz SUV caught my attention. I took down the name of the company that was on the SUV, googled it, and called the company. The company was called Blue Realty out of Coral Springs, FL. I reached the owner named Michael and shared my experience in the parking lot. I told him of this beautiful wrapped SUV Mercedes and had to compliment him on the fact that it grabbed my attention because it exuded a standard of excellence. We talked a bit about business and he shared that a lot of his top producers have similar wraps on their vehicles all by the same company. I asked him about the company and he shared that it was Von Wraps located in Deerfield Beach, FL

Once again, I did a little googling and I noticed that this company Von Wraps was about 10 minutes from my office. I called and reached a gentleman named Eric who was the owner. Believe it or not, he’s 26 years old. Personally, I admire young entrepreneurs willing to lay it on the line and start a business early in their careers. I asked Eric if I could stop by and see the place and he of course invited me in.

I visited on a particular day, Eric, unfortunately, wasn’t there however, I was greeted by this wonderful, professional woman at the front desk. Her name was Anna. Speaking to Anna I found out that she was Eric’s mom. Anna proceeded to tell me about her parents that came from Italy who were entrepreneurs. They opened and operated an Italian restaurant in Canada for several years. Anna and her husband had that same entrepreneurial spirit of which they opened and operated a business here in the United States. They later sold their company and she decided to help her son build a business. She shared how she was very strict with her son Eric to really impress upon him the importance of being a leader and owning his own company one day.

While enjoying our conversation, Anna proceeded to give me a tour of the place. I first noticed they are using 3M material for the wraps of all their vehicles. The 3M material is top-line quality material. Again, showing that excellence is the standard.

She started telling me about the team and then said something that caught me off guard. She mentioned that “We got lucky we have such a great team.” I’m like, “No, no, no, no, you didn’t get lucky Anna. First of all, this company was originated by you.” “No, it was started by my son.” I replied, “Actually, it was started by you with the fire you planted in your son at an early age to become an entrepreneur. And you didn’t get a good team because you were lucky, you have a good team because you created a culture of excellence that attracted quality people that wanted to represent your brand.” Anna happily agreed.

I shared this with Anna, Eric, and Michael. “Excellence leaves clues and you can’t hide excellence. Excellence stands out and grabs your attention. The crap on the bottom we just avoid and everything in the middle rarely even gets our attention at all.” The only way to do business is to do business with a standard of excellence.

Take this time today to ask yourself if you display that standard of excellence. If someone was to speak to you, go to your website, speak to one of your employees, see one of your cars or just witness your business in action does it display excellence, the standard of the best. And if it doesn’t, you have some work to do.
