What Got You Here Won’t Get You There

How Successful People Become Even More Successful

Marshall Goldsmith

In business and in life we are always searching for what we must do to get to the next level. We are always striving for the best in ourselves by applying any type of personal and professional development. Sometimes we are moving so fast forward that we actually need to just slow down and analyze our progress. When we do we realize that we are actually doing fairly well, however we just want to get better. We also recognize that there is still something that is stopping us from getting to that next level.

The strange thing is that we have to get clear on that we’re still doing everything that got us this far, however it may not be the same ingredients to get us farther. Sometimes it’s not necessarily about what we need to do next; it’s about what we must stop doing to go to the next level.

Marshall Goldsmith, in his book “What got you here, Won’t get you there”, shares his insights on how the habits you’ve gained so far, which are often the habits that have brought you this success in your career, are now the same habits that are now delaying your progress. You will learn that you are actually succeeding in spite of these habits, not because of them. With Marshalls’s systematic approach you will gain the clarity to free yourself from those habits that are not necessarily serving you on your path anymore. You will learn by making minor conscious adjustments you can take yourself to the next level.

Marshall shares 20 workplace habits that we all need to break. Some as simple as when someone makes a suggestion or gives you ideas – don’t pooh-pooh the messenger – understand that you’re either going to learn more or learn nothing. But you will never learn less. With this understanding you will listen and simply say “Thank You”.

Enjoy the book as I did, apply what you learn and take you and your business from here to there.
