Celebrate this week’s movement: Earth Day2 min read

This Friday, April 22, 2016 we will be celebrating the 46th year of a movement that continues to inspire, challenge ideas, ignite passion, and motivate people to action.

In 1970, the year of our first Earth Day, a movement that gave voice to an emerging consciousness, channeling human energy toward environmental issues.

Earth Day’s goal is to plant 7.8 billion trees for the Earth. That’s a great goal, however think of what it actually takes to plant a tree. When you plant a tree, you need the right environment, the right soil, water, sunlight and the proper fertilization. Most importantly you have to give it a chance to grow even with the adversity that will most certainly come its way.

Think of a mighty oak tree that started as just a seed a hundred years ago. How many storms, floods, and hurricanes did it have to stand against to grow into this mighty oak. There’s a great quote that puts this into perspective. “Good timber does not grow with ease: The stronger the wind, the stronger the trees.”

Now think about this; when we start a business are we actually planting a tree? It doesn’t matter whether your business started as a seed or a transplanting from another business owner. The strongest and most successful businesses have had to stand their own tests of time.

To successfully build a business, you need the right environment, the right team, the right message, the proper service and the right culture. Most importantly your business also has to weather the test of time and adversity that passes its way.

So, on this Earth Day, go out there and plant a tree, and keep in mind as you nurture this tree to grow into a large shade of fruit producer one day, that those same ingredients to grow this mighty tree holds true to grow your mighty business as well.
