Do the work and Open The Door!4 min read

I want to share something with you all today. We all know 2020 was somewhat of a difficult year and being a coach, I had some business owners that definitely had some challenges along the way. I’d particularly like to look at two different people. One was Eric. One was Candy.

In the months of March and April, Eric took a pretty severe hit in his revenues. I’m talking about a 75% plunge in revenues just because of the pandemic. He shared with me, “Coach, I have to quit coaching.” I asked, “Why?” “You see the numbers. I just can’t afford it right now.” I told him, “Don’t worry about it. We’re going to take your fees way down and when you get back on your feet again, we’ll take care of that then.” I told him, “I’ll tell you right now, Eric, this is going to be the biggest point of growth in your entire life. You’re not going to enjoy the next few months. However, you’re going to look back at this a year from now and realize, that’s where I grew the most.”

What I most like about Eric, he did the work. He showed up every day. He did everything I asked of him. He stepped through the door. What I mean by that is now his business is flourishing. His team’s doing great. He has systems in place. He’s extraordinarily positive. His mindset now compared to a year ago, he’s actually two different people. He’s encouraging his wife where she’s now following her passion. He’s making a huge difference in his life and business and everybody around him sees it. What he did is he went through the door. On the other side of the door is where the pay-off waits, however, before we open the door is where all the effort, all the work is. It’s the other side that is really great.

Now, Candy was in a business that she physically had to go out and tour people in facilities so they could make a decision to move in. She couldn’t go into these facilities for at least seven months. She physically could not do her job for seven months. I’ll tell you, in the last quarter of the year and the first quarter of this year, she made up for it. She still, last year, beat the year before. Her mindset now is unbelievable. She did the work. She stayed positive. She did her meditation. She shifted her business to focus on what she could do. She built up and concentrated on her team, she laid the foundation for future growth. Candy is also a person that opened the door and went through to the other side.

None of us are perfect. None of us have reached the mountaintop, however, things are really good in our business right now because we all did the work. For any of you who are looking to get everything you want in business and life, be prepared to open the door one day because the other side’s really nice, but before you do that, it’s gut-check time and you have to put in the work. What that entails, the most important work is to control your mindset, take care of your body, take care of your team. Take care of your family. Do everything in your power to be your absolute best. Control your mind. Protect it from all the noise and negativity. Focus on what will make the largest difference for you both personally and professionally. Be grateful for what you have. Realize that this is a world of abundance. As long as you do the work, God will reward you on the other side of the door.

Candy, Eric, kudos to you for doing the work and opening the door, and get to the other side. We still have more work to do, however, things are good. I’m grateful for all those of you who have stepped up because not only have you grown over the last year, I’ve grown also. Be prepared to do the work because trust me, the other side is where you get everything you want. It’s not given to us on a silver platter, we have to earn the right to accept it. Go get ’em!
