Today, I will share how to flip the script to achieve your goals. I’ll give you a perfect example. A couple of years back, I had a goal to get a Porsche. I test-drove one, had conversations with my wife and coaches, and was determined to get that Porsche. I told my coach, “When I achieve this goal, I will order the car.” However, shortly thereafter I went to our 2022 Global Conference in Maui, where I was challenged by Brad Sugars, in front of 120 coaches. He challenged me with a statement that hit home. “How dare you underperform your capabilities?” I took that phrase to heart, and I made that my mantra for the following year, to go to the next level.
What’s interesting, when I got back from the Global Conference, it was time to step up and go to the next level and be more of who I need to be for myself, my family, my clients, and my community. What I immediately did was I ordered that Porsche, and when I had a call with my coach, and told her that I ordered it. She replied, “What do you mean? I thought you were going to wait until you achieve your goal to order it.” I said, “No, I thought about it. I ordered the Porsche, and by the time I get the Porsche delivered, I would have already hit the target of what I want to achieve to get the Porsche.” So, I made a commitment, to generate, in income, exactly the cost of the Porsche, which I had ordered. Mission accomplished. Generated the revenue and got my new car.
That’s called the Law of the Vacuum. You have to create something and fill it. What I did is I ordered the car that I wanted in advance. By doing this I created the vacuum to force me to step up, to fill it, to achieve the goal of paying for the Porsche. If any of you struggling with, “When I achieve this, I will get that,” step outside your comfort zone. Take a step forward. Take a little risk, and get that enthusiasm and commitment going. Order what you want. Get it and then figure out how to hit the targeted results to pay for that reward.
If there’s a great vacation you want to go to, book it. Book it right now. Date it, and then commit to doing what it takes to pay for that vacation, wherever it is in the world.
