New Opportunity3 min read

The word for today is no. Now there’s two ways of looking at the word no. As we grew up as children, we didn’t like that word because we constantly heard it from our parents. In business, we also sometimes hear it. No means they’re not buying. They’re not taking our goods and services. We’re not getting what we want as an outcome.

Now, the word NO in this case means new opportunity. Anytime you hear, no, that gives you an opportunity to go to the next step and find a better way to accomplish your goal.

Now there’s two ways of looking at no. Sometimes we hear the word no, sometimes we say the word, no. Now, hearing the word no, again, think of it as a new opportunity. It’s not the end of the world. Sometimes people are so fixated on getting that next encounter, that the next a client when they say no, it’s the end of their world and it really brings them down. Think about that as an opportunity to get better.

Another way to use no for you is knowing what to say no to. People like Warren Buffett, Steve Jobs, obviously very successful. They talked about what they said no to versus what they say yes to. They said no to thousands of things that were presented to them on a daily basis. They said yes to the one thing that they knew was going to take themselves and the organization to the next level.

Some people have a hard time saying no. That means they’re not really intentional on exactly what needs to happen for them to take the action, to get them to where they want to go. Because by trying to please people and saying yes and jumping at all the shiny objects, it’s taking them off their definite purpose and goal. It’s keeping them off track. Same word, two ways to hear it.

Now when we hear the word no, it means new opportunity. A step to get better, to tweak, to get a yes, the next time. And the other way of using no for you is knowing what to say no to. Because when you’re fixated on your definite purpose, your goal, and your destination, only what serves those items is what you should be saying yes to and everything else is a no.
