Who’s in Your Tribe?

I recently talked about whether you’re part of the majority of the people or your part of the minority. The majority pretty much travels in packs. They’re just following and easily influenced. The minority are very clear on where they want to go, what they want to accomplish, and where they invest their time. So how do you shift from the majority to the minority?

I’m very fortunate as I’m in a couple of tribes that I’m very grateful for. Before we get to my tribes, I’m blessed with having a wonderful wife. Susan and I have been married for 36 years. We dated for six, been together for 42 years, and our relationship keeps on getting better. Have we had some roadblocks and bumps in the road? Absolutely, yes. However, as we work through the adversities of life, things get better. Just recently, we went to a tribe of millionaire’s event. This was the first event that was both the wives and husbands were attended, and my wife was expecting, honestly, a bunch of prima donnas. And what she got, which a group of authentic, cheerful, well-balanced people that she was able to easily blend with.

There are two tribes I have become associated with. Fortunately, I’m a coach with Action Coach Business Coaching, which has been around for 32 years. We’re in 86 countries. So, I’m blessed to be surrounded with coaches that are consistently striving to be their best so they can help their clients become their best, help them scale their business, build their team, make more money, create abundance and freedom, all the good things we strive for in life.

I have another group called the tribe of millionaires, all authentic, humble, well-balanced men and women that I get to siphon wisdom from. Any question I may have, whether it be about real estate, the stock market, crypto, health, wealth, and/or abundance. There’s somebody that I can tap into that specializes in that area or industry. And what I love most about this group, zero judgment. There are people with net worths, anywhere from $2 million up to hundreds of millions, no judgment. Pure, pass it forward wisdom and relationships. Associating with these tribes simply makes me better. I’ll sit down with somebody half my age and learn something from them because they’re in a different industry and have studied different things than I. Every time someone speaks, including myself, we’re sharing wisdom based on what we do, however, it impacts others in such a way it could be a shift in their lives.

I’m blessed with a wonderful wife and two powerful tribes to tap into that are going to stretch me to become more. So, as you look around yourself, who’s in your tribe? I went to Jack Canfield’s Day of Greatness a few years ago. He had an exercise. He told us to take a piece of paper, fold it down the middle, list all the people on one side that are in your environment that don’t serve you, and all the people on the other side that are in your environment that do. I was astonished and proud that I only had people on my list that serve me. I realized as a coach over the last 12, 13 years, I’ve been going through this process to become very intentional on surrounding myself with the right people.

I encourage you to do that exercise. Get really clear on who’s in your tribe. Are they challenging you to move up or are they holding you back? If there’s anyone holding you back and you want to go further, it’s time for you to make a decision on how that works out.

We become who we surround ourselves with. If you want to be part of that minority that’s really out there making change, surround yourself with people that are going to stretch you to help you create change. But most importantly, the first change that ever needs to happen is us. When we change, everything around us changes.
