I like to start this conversation by sharing a quote; “how you do anything is how you do everything.” When people say, “Oh no, coach, when I’m at home or while I’m with my team, it’s different.” No, no, no, how you do anything is how you do everything. If you’re excelling in certain areas, you can excel in other areas. If you’re disciplined in certain areas, you can be disciplined in other areas as well. If you’re not delivering in certain areas, or you procrastinate or you’re indecisive or if you overanalyze in certain areas, it’s going to drip into everything you do.
Let me give you a little example of how to make it easy. I’m certified in an assessment called Why. My why is Make Sense, my how is a Better Way, and my what is Simplify. I’m going to run with my what, “Simplify” because I truly believe business owners complicate things. I’m here as a coach to simplify things. I’m going to share a simple example with you.
I shared last week about how I flipped the script to order my Porsche before I paid for it. I’m going to take it one step further and tell you how I did it. I ordered my Porsche online and immediately forwarded that information to my auto broker. I let him take the time to see what’s going on, check where it is and how much time it’s going to take, and so on and so forth. If there are any discrepancies, he handles them.
I took possession of my car in February 2023. Prior to that, I went online to put my current car in with Carvana who gave me a price of what they’d pay for it. I told Joe a couple of days prior to delivery. He told me he would pay me $200 more.” Perfect. Joe pulled up into my driveway with my brand-new Porsche, exactly 100% the way I wanted it. He brought his associate with him to take my former car, take the plates off, put the plates on my new car, hand me a check to pay off the dealer, and put a little money in the bank. Joe and I sat down at the kitchen table, had an iced tea, and filled out and signed the paperwork, I now have my new car and a check in my hand. They drive off with the old car.
How simple was that? I got clear on what I wanted. I ordered online. I gave it to somebody else. When it came in, he brought it to my driveway. I didn’t have to do much of anything except stand in my driveway, look at my new car, watch them do everything, receive a check and watch them drive off in my old car. It’s as simple as that.
So, if you need a little help simplifying things in business with your team, with yourself, feel free to reach out. But don’t feel it’s necessary to do all the stuff yourself. Get clear on what you want. Find the people who help you get it done, and simply reap the rewards with delegation and a lot less effort.
In addition, there are plenty of virtual assistants out there, plenty of people that do the little stuff we hate to do. But remember, how you do anything is how you do everything. If you over-complicate the little things, trust me, you are going to over-complicate everything. However, if you simplify the little things, you are going to begin to create the process of simplifying everything, and in business, that leads to increased productivity, more time, and a bigger bottom line. And that’s what business is all about.
