Slow Down to Speed Up!

In 2021, I published a book, Knock It Out of Park Leadership. I quickly learned something as a coach that I shared in the last chapter. As a coach, all I do is to get my clients to slow down so they can speed up. You all remember the story about the tortoise and the hare.

The tortoise and hare were the forest, and the hare was always running around at a frantic, hectic pace. If you’re a new business owner, you probably could relate to this. The tortoise challenged him to a race. The hare, arrogant as he was, said, “Let’s go.” So, all the animals gathered in the forest and the race started. The hare, of course, at his frantic, hectic pace, got way out in front and decided to take a nap. A little while later, the hare was woken up by a host of noise. What was that noise? It was all the animals cheering as the tortoise was just about to cross the finish line. The hare got up, raced towards the finish line, but it was too late. The tortoise had won. And the hare declared, “No longer will I run around at a frantic, hectic pace as slow and steady wins the race.”

That is where I come in as a coach. Learn, study, master, teach. I had to learn for myself before I could teach my clients to do the same. As a coach, all I’m doing is getting you to slow down, take a step back, look at your business from outside in, start asking you questions to get you thinking deeper about some of the things you’re doing and not doing. Getting you clear on how you show up as a leader to your team, and your organization. Create a plan, and once you get all get these distinctions and you’re clear on all these steps to move forward. I share, “Good, now you can speed up.”

Unfortunately, most business owners are like hamsters in a wheel. A minute turns into an hour, turns into a day, turns into a week, turns into a month, turns into a year, five, 10, 20 real fast. We need to slow down, take a step back, and observe what we’re doing. There are so many little things that we’re missing that could be sabotaging our success and we don’t even know it. However, when you have a coach recognizing all these blind spots and challenging you to look and think deeper, now we’re catching all this stuff.

Question; who’s your guide in your business? Who’s slowing you down to speed up? Is someone asking you the tough questions that no one else is willing to ask? Is someone challenging you to think much deeper than you’re thinking now? Is someone coaching you and teaching you how to ask the right questions, how to empower your team to make decisions accordingly without you constantly having to assist? If you’re going at it alone, it’s going to be difficult. You’ll be successful eventually. You’ll get results, but you’re going to be missing all the blind spots which could be sabotaging your success and slowing that entire process down.

If you’re looking to get to the next level, elevate yourself, your team, your organization, and be the best of the best. Realize there’s certain things you don’t know that you don’t know. Consider hiring a coach. Better yet, give me the opportunity to be your guide or at least have a conversation. Let me show you how I can slow you down to see the things you’re not seeing, to take the proper steps and actions. Then you could speed up, and build that company you always dreamed of.

It’d be my honor, privilege, and pleasure to be your guide. This is what motivates me, creating success stories through my clients growing themselves, their team, and their company. So, if you’re not slowing down to speed up, and you’re a hamster on the wheel, reach out. Give me a call. I’d love to have a conversation.
