Unleash Your Power4 min read

On January 9th, my son turned 26 years old and for his birthday I bought him The Extreme Experience. The Extreme Experience is an organization that takes supercars for four days, twice a year, sets up shop at a particular track somewhere in the United States, and allows us to drive those supercars with zero restrictions.

What do I mean by zero restrictions? Let’s say you have a beautiful fast sports car. I have a nice Porsche. However, when I’m on regular roads, there’s a restriction I have that I just can’t unleash the power of the car on the road because I have a fear of flashing lights, a speed trap, getting stopped, getting a ticket, my insurance rate’s going up. So that keeps me from not putting my pedal to the metal so I’m living life in the restricted zone.

However, when I had the opportunity to race one of these cars at full tilt, just getting in the seat and being able to rev it fully was super exciting. I’ll share that when I came out of that last turn, when they gave me the green and said, “Go, go, go,” I put the pedal to the metal and saw those RPMs go to 9,500 and felt the power, it felt oh so good. It was exhilarating.

The next day as I was recapping this wonderful exciting day, I had of sharing this experience with my son, he and I racing these cars, and having the ability to unleash the power of these vehicles with zero restrictions. I started thinking of the experience as an actual metaphor for life.

In life and business, are you holding yourself back from putting the pedal to the metal? Are you looking in the rearview mirror or out the front window and being hesitant about what might happen if you go for it? Are you procrastinating on moving ahead? Are you sometimes being indecisive? Are you afraid to make a risky move, to get out there and put yourself on the edge to get to the next level? Because I found, just like driving that car, putting your foot on the pedal and feeling that heat, that speed, the exhilaration, that’s the same thing in life. When you go for it and do the things you didn’t think you were capable of doing. One day you’re sitting here and reflecting, “Oh my God, look at this. This is awesome. Look how much I’ve accomplished just by going for it.” You then grasp that feeling of exhilaration in the journey of success.

There’s something else I want to share with you. When we drove those supercars, we weren’t driving them alone. We had a guide sitting shotgun, guiding us, telling us when to slow down, when to pull on the brake, and when just to go full speed and unleash the full potential to get the maximum out of the car. How’s that for a metaphor? It’s the same in business and life.

If you want to get to the next level, if you want to unleash your power, if you want to put your pedal to the metal and in 1, 3, 5, 10 years from now, look back and say, “My God, how did I get here?” And feel that exhilaration of personal and professional growth? Get yourself a guide, sitting shotgun right next to you, telling you when to go all out. And if you’re looking for that guide, reach out to me, give me a call. I’d love to chat. Realize life is to live. We only have so many days ahead of us and none of us know how many days that is. Don’t live life looking in the rearview mirror or out the front window worrying about what might happen. Put your pedal to the metal and go for it.
