We Are All Athletes!3 min read

Today I am going to share on how you can be a superb athlete in the systemization of building your business. I was thinking this past weekend as I was watching a UFC fight about how they were talking about the type of work the individual does as far as the grind, the practice, the routine for weeks upon weeks, working on the repetition within their fight game to be their best on fight day. This way, when they actually step into the ring, that’s where they get to have the most fun.

It’s the same scenario when we look back at the Super Bowl. The Kansas City Chiefs won again. However, they talked about the fact that they practice everything they need to know so when they get on the field, it’s routine. They’ve done it so many times before that it just becomes a habit. They have fun. They’re in the zone, and that’s how they win the game.

The questions lie; is that any different in business? We want to create a business that works for us that we can sell one day. And to have a business that works for us, we have to create systems. And systems are all about saving yourself stress, time, energy, and money.

So how does this relate to being an athlete? The systems we create, the KPIs, key performance indicators, the SOPs, standing operating procedures, the culture, how the team aligns to the rules of the game. Once we practice and learn these SOPs, apply the KPIs, stay aligned to the culture and practice all the little things we need to do daily to when we’re actually doing our job, it’s just repetition. We’re in the zone. We’re delivering with expertise. Our clients are happy. They’re giving us great reviews, and they’re coming back for more. We’re athletes. It’s all we are. When the athletes are on the field, they’re at their best. When a UFC fighter is in the cage, he or she is at their best. Why? Because they’ve done all the prep work. So, when they’re in the arena, they’re just having fun.

It’s just like us as business owners. We do the prep work, practice everything we need to do to totally systemize the process of the team and business. Everyone stays aligned. Everyone knows what they need to do. They’ve practiced the over and over again. So, on game day, when you’re servicing your clients, boom, you’re in the zone. You’re delivering the goods and your customers are getting exactly what they want. And that’s a way to build a successful business.
