Years back I was given a great gift from a mentor of mine. It was simply a bottle opener representing the All Black rugby team out of New Zealand. The significance of this gift wasn’t clear at the time, however, became clear to me later.

The New Zealand All Black Team has a pregame ritual which they perform called “The Haka”. The Haka has been performed by the New Zealand’s rugby teams since 1888.

The Haka is an ancient posture dance performed by the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand, the ritual was performed just before warriors headed to battle.

The Haka’s mystique has evolved along with the fierce determination, commitment and high level of skill which has been a hallmark of the All Blacks and they perform this Haka with precision and intensity which underpin their approach to the game.

The All Black record clearly shows that they are one of the very best Rugby Teams of all times.

Today’s question is; what are your rituals or as we would like to call them RICHuals? What is your pregame warmup? What are you doing to make sure you are in the right mindset to go out and give your best for yourself, your family, your company, your team, your clients each and every day? What are you doing every morning to set yourself up to WIN?

If you are waking up, brushing your teeth, and running out into the world of business without getting right. You are essentially a warrior going out into battle without your armor, leaving yourself exposed to the elements.

Whatever you do, make sure you have a system to get in your best state each and every day. Whether it be meditation, affirmations, reading, working out, yoga or certain music. It doesn’t matter, just find what works for you. Remember that all success starts with you. Find your ritual, be your best, share it with others and make 2017 your best year yet.

I have shared a link to the New Zealand All Black team Haka ritual below.
