An Aligned Spouse / Partner = Success

I would like to share something that has had a big impact on my life. Forty-two years ago, I met a lovely lady named Susan Telford. We dated for six years before getting married. We just recently celebrated our 36th Wedding Anniversary. Now, for me to say over 42 years that everything has been perfect, … Read more

Massive Action Only = Massive Results!

There’s an interesting saying, “Give a good idea to a mediocre team, and they’ll find a way to screw it up. Give a mediocre idea to a good team, and they’ll find a way to make it better.” Could you tell me how you do that? There is what I call an unequal equation in delivering results. Hopefully, in business and life, we all want massive results. We want to achieve what we want as far as our dreams and goals. And the only way to get what we would call massive results is to take massive action. There’s no other way. All in, 100%. Not 99.9% commitment. All in. Burn your bridges, burn your boats behind you, whatever it takes. Massive action.

Question: What if you take mediocre action, you’re not all in. You’re just kind of, treading light, going along with, while just doing enough. What type of results are you going to get? Most of you are thinking of mediocre results. No. You will get low results. If you’re treading lightly with your actions and you’re just doing enough, your results are going to be substandard, and you will continue to struggle.

Now, let’s say you’re taking low action, you’re now doing very little. What type of results are you going to get? You’re going to get no results. Not low results. You’re going to get absolutely ZERO results. It’s the unequal equation. The only way to get what you want is you need to take massive, 100%, all-in, burn your ships behind you, action. No other way. Anything less than that, you’re going to struggle. You’re going to be frustrated. And you’re going to wonder why everyone else is achieving greatness and you’re not.

So, remember, you give a good idea to a mediocre team, and they’ll find a way to screw it up. You give a mediocre idea to a good team, and they’ll find a way to make it better. However, always remember, that you’re either all in or you’re not in at all. If you want to achieve greatness, whether it’s in business or life, you have to run a self-analysis and measure yourself to see if you are all in or not. A lot of people think 99.9% is good enough. Well, I can share some statistics on what 99.9% looks like, and they do not reflect successful results. 100%, all in, massive action is the only way.

Bacon, Eggs, and Your Team

Bacon, eggs, and your team, what does this have to do with anything? I’ll tell you; it has to do with everything in your team. Bacon, everybody loves bacon. Mm-mm good. Anything cooked with bacon makes it that much better. However, when it comes to your team, bacon, they’re the fully committed ones. They’re the ones that show up. They’re the ones who will do what it takes to help you take your organization to the next level. You see, bacon comes from the pig and that pig is fully committed. To make the bacon, that’s one less pig on this earth.

Now, eggs, the chicken’s less than half in. The chicken lays an egg. That egg, we boil it, we scramble it, we fry it. We like our eggs. These are the people on your team, they’re kind of half in. They show up at 8:00. They leave at 5:00. They don’t come early. They don’t stay late. They do just enough. Are they your A players? Absolutely not. Are they fully committed like the pig? No, they’re not. But it’s your job as a leader to evaluate and educate these B players, the eggs, to graduate them to being bacon, to being the fully committed A players.

And then, I don’t know if you’ve ever been to a hotel or someplace where they serve what they say is scrambled eggs, I don’t necessarily know what it is, but from what I understand, there’s no chicken or real egg involved at all. All I know, is you take one bite of those things like, “Nah, I don’t think so. I’m going to go get myself a bagel.” Those are the teammates that you do not want on your team. You do not want to serve those imitations powered whatever they call eggs to anybody in your organization because that is substandard, and those substandard team members bring the Bs and the As down. They ruin the culture of your organization.

Your goal, number one, is being the leader, you need to be to create the brand and the culture to attract the A players, the A players that want to be part of your organization. It’s up to you as a leader to coach up the B players to become A players. You love the bacon, the eggs are good, but those powdered eggs, those C players, they need to go.

Grind to Growth to Gratitude

I was talking to a client a couple of weeks ago on a coaching call and had a little epiphany. I thought about the three Gs’ in business, and actually in life too. We go from Grind to Growth to Gratitude.   I’ll only look at my experience. I became a coach a little less … Read more

Inside the Four Walls Theory

Over the last four weeks, I talked about several different subjects. Four weeks ago, I talked about don’t be the bottleneck in your organization. Three weeks ago, we talked about don’t hit the snooze button on your life. Two weeks ago, we talked about being in and out of alignment with the principles that make … Read more

In and Out of Alignment

Several years ago, I was challenged by a coach of mine who asked me a couple of questions about a book that I read numerous times, “Think & Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. First of all, “Think & Grow Rich” was written and published by Napoleon Hill in 1937. He was challenged by Andrew Carnegie to take 25 years of his life to analyze, and research, the most talented, most professional, most successful people on the planet, the Forbes, the Vanderbilts, the Rockefellers, and come up with principles that if you learn, study, and master, it will help you become extremely successful.

I finally read this book about eight years ago with a group, the way it was supposed to be read, applying the mastermind principle, and I can’t tell you how much value I received from doing it correctly. Also, it made me realize how much I really left on the table by reading it alone.

I now teach this every year in a deep dive 12-week book study. The reason I share this is that as I do this course every single year with a group, the principles get deeper and deeper within me, and I understand now what needs to happen to be centered, to be present, to really focus on being intentional about what I truly want in business and life. Now I have the recipe on exactly how to go about making that happen so I can write my goals down, check them off, and accomplish them.

Most importantly, I now find that there’s a certain alignment that I need to have with the principles of “Think & Grow Rich”, because as the old saying goes; success leaves clues. If I just follow the principles, I will be successful both in business and in life. So, when things aren’t going the way they should or the way I want, I usually find myself out of alignment with the principles. There are certain principles of showing up right in life, doing the right thing, being super intentional, writing down our goals, creating plans to get what we want, to focusing on only what serves us instead of all the noise out there in the world.

When you do that, you get better results because you’re putting your time, energy, and effort exactly where it needs to be to get you what you want. But then when you’re struggling and things aren’t working, you can identify the fact that you’re out of alignment with some of those proven principles. Whatever the right things you have done in your life and are doing now that produce results, keep on doing it, however, get very conscious and intentional that when you’re out of alignment, the results you want, you’re not going to get. It’s not because of anything you can’t control. It’s because you have just slipped a little bit momentarily from the alignment of the principles that make you successful.

Get clear on what they are, stay in alignment, and you will continually write down great goals, create bucket list items, and hopefully continue to check them off and create a more desired life for you and those around you.

Don’t Hit the Snooze Button

I have a quick public service announcement. Don’t hit the snooze button. Why do I say this? A coach said to me a long time ago… “Michael, how you do anything is how you do everything.” It’s obvious back then, in this situation, I wasn’t showing up to my full capabilities. If you’re not showing … Read more
