“I Have a Dream”2 min read

Four words that rang loud that day. Martin Luther King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech, delivered on the 28th of August, 1963 in a march on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, synthesized portions of his previous sermons and speeches, with selected statements by other prominent public figures.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was an American Baptist minister, activist, humanitarian, and leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta Georgia. He was married to Coretta Scott King and had four children: Martin Luther King III, Dexter Scott King, Yolanda King and Bernice King.

Martin Luther King, Jr.  was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and Presidential Medal of Freedom.

He was influenced by Mahatma Gandhi and Abraham Lincoln.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was  Assassinated on April 4, 1968, Memphis, TN at the age of 39.

When I think of Martin Luther King, Jr. I think of a person that was more about than just himself. He was all about a much higher calling. He showed up and put himself out there for what he truly believed in and that what was right. He wasn’t afraid of the consequences. He continued to fight for what he believed in.

“I have a Dream” was a vision and speech that moved more people in one day at that time than ever before. The march was attended by some 250,000 people, it was the largest demonstration ever seen in the nation’s capital. In addition to being one of the first to have extensive television coverage as it was also viewed by millions in that venue.

Most importantly, take a moment and think of possessing that type of belief, tenacity and influence in what is truly important to you. Follow and exhibit that type of passion and you just might be surprised on how far it takes you.
