Inform, Inspect, Inspire!3 min read

If you’re a leader and you want to get better results with your team, I’m going to share with you a simple tip. Follow the three I’s. That’s it. The three I’s. Inform, Inspect, Inspire.  

Information is vital. Inform your team in exactly what needs to be done. Make it very clear on their roles and responsibilities, and exactly the information you put forth that they need to carry out to get the result. Realize that a lot of people are visual. They’re not necessarily great listeners, so make sure you ask them if they got and understand the proper information, and how they’re going to take action to get it done. If you need to show them, yes, you need to show them, but make sure you inform them correctly and make sure they’re clear on that information. 

Once they get that, Inspect it. There’s a tracking measure called KPIs, key performance indicators. Inspect what you expect, don’t expect for them to get it done without the proper follow-up. You need to inspect it, follow them along the way, and make sure they’re hitting their KPIs to deliver the outcome. 

Last and most importantly, Inspire. We don’t always get things exactly right the way the leaders want them done the first time. Inspire your team. You’re a leader. Your job as a leader is to create other leaders. Inspire them to go outside their comfort zone to do more than what’s expected. Let them know you’re very grateful for them being part of the team. Let them know that you really appreciate the effort they’re putting forward. Let them know what they could do better and then inspire them to move forward. You’ll get much better results. 

In conclusion; if you want to get better results with your team, just remember the three I’s. Inform, make sure they’re getting the proper information and they fully understand exactly their roles and responsibilities. Inspect to make sure they’re staying on track and you’re inspecting what you’re expecting. When they know you’re going to be following up, they’re going to make sure they’re getting it done. And most importantly, Inspire them. Those are the people in your organization who are doing the work to take this organization to the next level. Your job is just to lead them. That’s it!
