Peak Performance Checklist

Let’s face it, I love sports. The UFC American Top Team is right around the block from my house in Coconut Creek. The Summer Olympics just recently finished up. Football, both college, and pro are officially here! Hockey is coming up in October. Basketball is also right around the corner.

I love the art of competition, however, here’s something that’s interesting. Being an athlete, a marathon runner, a CEO, an executive, or whatever you may be. I would like to think that you want to be your best, you want to perform at your peak performance level.

Lots of performers have certain rituals. There are certain things they do the morning of their event. There are certain pre-game rituals. There are certain trainings they perform for weeks and months on end, to be their best. I’m sure those athletes when they arrived at the Summer Olympics, they wanted to be at their absolute peak.

We as executives, business owners, leaders, and entrepreneurs must have our pre-game rituals. My question to you is what is your peak performance checklist? Do you actually have a checklist that you check off and carry out so you can be on you’re a-game, at your peak performance, when you show up to your profession each and every day?

For me, it starts with breathing, doing the proper exercises to move the oxygen to my lungs.  Meditation to calm my mind, to think of how I really want to show up for the day. My affirmations, saying the right things to program my mind to be who I want to be to show up as the person I need to be for my clients, my business, and my family.

Going to the gym three days a week, getting a good workout, with both weights and cardio. Waking up every morning and doing some light stretching, alternated every other day with some heavy stretching, gets my body moving and limber. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day to keep my filtration process going to keep me healthy.

Mind, body, heart, spirit. What’s your peak performance checklist? What do you do to get into your peak performance to be your best? If you’re waking up, brushing your teeth, grabbing a cup of coffee, and going out to the business world without taking time for yourself, you’re like a warrior going into battle with no armor. Those arrows are going to come and pierce you if you’re not properly prepped. You need to have a checklist to be at your best.

I encourage you, no, I actually challenge you, if you don’t have a checklist to be at your peak performance, create one. Apply it, master it, embrace it. Don’t avoid it. Our goal, our commitment, should be to be our best because as we step up, that energy starts spreading to everybody else around us, they then step up also. If you’re a leader of an organization that applies your peak performance checklist, you’re checking off those boxes each and every day, you’re doing the work, then you can lead your team to do the same so your organization can consistently be running on all cylinders. It’s those types of organizations that good employees want to represent, good people want to come to give you their money, to give you their business, and make your business and life a successful one.

So think about it. If you don’t have a peak performance checklist, it’s time to create one. Apply it, master it, and as the late great Zig Ziglar would say; we’ll see you at the top.
